UNRAVEL HIDDEN DIMENSION

INTRODUCTIOn
Fundamental aspects of the architectural design are what was the purpose of this assignment. The relationships between the idea and the physical object were explored through the production of an Axonometric of a building which was built by my hero architect
which is” Louis I Khan”. The building that I choose was “Kimbell Art Museum” in Fort Worth, built in 1966. The main challenge was to analyze the building in a way that could be sorted out into three categories which were, UNRAVEL THE SKIN, THE HIDDEN FORCE and FROM INSIDE TO OUTSIDE. The main intention of the first category was analyzing Façades and Roof elements, material and all other related issues to the outer part of the building. In the second category, structure, construction, lightness, massiveness, stairs and all other building element was important and for the third part, we should Analyzing light/shadow, the importance of views, material, elements related to inner part of the building.
OBJECTIVe + SOLUTIOn
My first approach was to understand the context of the building and try to find out the logic behind the shapes and forms of the building. For doing so, First I started to review the life of the Louis I Khan and look through most of his work. After my research part, I start to build a philosophy for analyzing Kimbell Art Museum, according to what I learned from Louis Khan
and my own way of interpretation of architecture. I wanted to reach to a point that satisfies my expectation from analyzing the building while accomplished the Louis khan philosophy.
After setting my steps related to the concept of light and silence which was used by Louis Khan himself, I tried to detach building elements into two categories of “Hard skin” and “Light Skin”. By this mean all the elements of the building translate in relation to light. So in this manner walls become “Light Cather”, stairs become” light conductor’ and….
RESULt + LEARNINg
In the end, by creating different graphically shapes for each element of the house and arranging them in five vertical layers, final Axonometric drawing has been produced. The most important aspect of this assignment was introducing the relation between the architect philosophy and the building itself. Each building is a mirror of its creator. In this way, the building becomes the biography of that person and the only way of understanding both the building and the architect is to analyze the hidden dimension of them. Also getting familiar with one of the great architect of the twenties century helped me a lot in trying to get to know my professional position in the architecture world. Thus what I really learn from this project was related to understanding different ways of approaching to a specific building. In the process, while I disassembled each architectural element in the building, new meanings arise from both the internal and external context of the architecture of building and environment.
